The HID 40NKS-02-015AYN is a Signo 40 smartcard reader with a smart profile. A reader sits beside the door and passes each presented credential to the access control panel, which decides whether to unlock. Readers like this are the user-facing part of an access control system, sending credential data to the controller that grants or denies entry.
