The HID 40NKS-00-0001Q9 is a Signo 40 contactless smart card reader that mounts in wall-switch style. Smart card readers are the front end of an access control system, reading each credential and reporting it to the panel that controls the door. Where mobile credentials are deployed, users can present a phone instead of a card.
