HID's Signo 40K Keypad Reader (40KNKS-00-00003C) reads credentials at the door and reports each read to the access control panel, which decides whether to release the lock. Its keypad adds PIN entry, so a door can be set to accept a code alone or a card plus a code. It wires up through a pigtail lead joined to the controller cable.
